MÖRK BORG is a role-playing game you play the same way you listen to metal — shamelessly, at full volume, having a fucking blast. It has light rules, but it drips with atmosphere. It looks like a collector’s edition of a new record from some kvlt Norwegian crew, but it’s a book you can pick up and run the most insane, unhinged, and off-the-wall session of your life. The world is dying, and the character you control is ripping the last scraps from its dried-up bones before meeting the same fate. Straight to the skull.
Inside you’ll find:
A grim world of dangerous adventures — for real. The world is dying, in accordance with the prophecies and the seven psalms of the Unnamed Writings. But before it kicks the bucket, you can visit the tomb-mountains of the Khryptonos, the cursed Wretched Waste of the Miserably Undead, or Galgenbeck, the most magnificent city the earth has ever carried on its weary shoulders, where the heart of the apocalyptic cult of the Two-Headed Basilisks beats.
Lightning-fast character creation. The dice decide how fucked you are from the start, and when your character dies, you can immediately jump back into the game with a new wretch.
Rules that are easy to learn and easy to max out. They’ll have no problem letting you handle your character looting things, your character killing things, or simply dying (both things and your character).
The Calendar of Nechrubel, an apocalyptic clock that lets you simulate the chaos of a dying world and its rules, changing until the final hour, until its last moment.
20 mysterious spells in the form of holy and profane scrolls, along with a table of 20 magical cataclysms that occur after you fumble trying to master magical powers.
Optional rules that let you add depth to the game in the direction you want: Omens that let you reverse fate and harness bad luck for better results. Classes with unique abilities and wild quirks, such as the Gutter Scum, the Wretched Princeling, or the Heretical Preacher. Tables that help you add necessary details to your character — personality, history of diseases you’ve had (and are currently suffering from) that are highly contagious, and answer the question of why they HAD to take up grave robbing.
Dozens of opponents — terrifying and merciless — both mad mortals and bloodthirsty beasts.
Tools for the Game Master, including the contents of a corpse’s pockets, 50 quest ideas, occult treasures, devilish traps and tricks, and above all, the entire ruleset summarized on one convenient spread.
A starting dungeon module — ROTBLACK SLUDGE — in which the characters will explore the forgotten casemates of the CURSED PIT, meet sorcerer-cannibals, poison dealers from beyond the void, and ravenous bugs. In this section, the manual focuses maximally on usability instead of wild aesthetics — it stands out not only with its clear layout that makes finding information easy, but it will also be printed on different paper (in the same book).
